Memorial Day

So today is Memorial Day, and I pretty much spent the entire day being non-productive, which I am entitled to do because my schedule at times can be and is very hectic. I enjoyed the rain. Still didn't get to dance in the rain. But it's definitely on my to do list. With that being said I don't intend to be long on this post....just wanted to extend a shout out to the remembrance of my aunt Pan, uncle Pete, my grandfather, and uncle Doug...RIP and with love you all forever changed my life for the greater good. Proud to carry on the legacy of life, laughter, and happiness.

confessions from Miz Penstrokes :JUST BE

So I'm currently at the moment single and not looking, but what I will add to that is that I'm at this place in my life where I'm enjoying the simple things. And in my honest opinion, I never thought that I of all people would be saying this but I'm actually enjoying this friendship phase with the newest addition to my life. I say that to say...for so long I've been in that place of searching for someone else (a man *sigh*) to fulfill some void or dire need that I felt I had, but in all honesty, I had to learn to be comfortable with self. So I spent time, asking the hard questions and digging deep within to love self first and well. It's weird how he came into my life or vice versa, but I will definitely say, that it was our love for words, poetry, and music that binds our hearts together. I told him the other day: The wise once said, "When someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them"....and I believe everything about who is, and who he is revealing to me. What's the worst that could happen with gaining his trust, his friendship, his smile, his time...his respect...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. so on that note my wise words for the day are simply: JUST BE...

Poem

It was on a Sunday,
When my pen met your paper,
Nine months later we birthed our firstborn,
Son, Poem. You see to the naked eye, the average
Listener wouldn’t understand our connection,
It was that we didn’t chose not to use protection,
But I couldn’t help but stroke your erection,
Because your lines were empty and needed to be addressed,
My pen made love to you, Ink dark and wet.
We sat for hours pondering the different styles
We could perform, sonnets too ancient,
A Haiku too short, But I decided that with this free verse,
Things couldn’t be rehearsed, I’d expose you,
Of all the elements your were made of,
Writing rhymes that defined our love,
I remember it just like it was yesterday,
How nervous we were when I popped my cap off,
You admired my straight and narrow stance,
And with ever chance I got,
I took the opportunity to slow dance, And be your romance
Waltz around in the space that you possessed,
Because your arms were built to protect,
See love with you I was blessed.
I remember it was just like yesterday,
How mesmerized I was at the way you moved,
We grooved, to different melodies,
Melodically creating our own sound,
And only but for so long, could I stay hushed,
Because the truth was I was in love with the idea
Of being in love with you so much,
That at the mere touch you gave,
I forgave every past lover,
Put them asunder only to wonder
Where this left room for you and I?
You were my masterpiece in the making,
And this was real genuine what we were creating,
Evident that you were elated,
Debating whether you wanted more from me,
Because I revealed the truth behind your mystery.
It was on a Sunday,
The day we joined together as one,
Creating a life, an art that will never be undone.

The E-Zone (Erotic Poetry Night)

Greetings my beautiful fantabulous people. I hope all is well. I'm a little bit sleepy, as I finish up my radio show that I co-host alongside Andre Will, Elevated Thinkin, B.P. a.k.a. N'Factuation. I have been super busy trying to make certain different events come to fruition here in the city of Toledo, and I along with my good friend Kesha McVay, brainstormed some ideas about creating a poetry night that was not like your typical, average spoken word open mic. So we created The E-Zone ( A night of Erotic Poetry). It will be held at The Ground Level Coffee House 2636 Central Ave. Toledo, OH 43606. The show starts at 7pm-11pm, so please come out and support us. I can't wait!

Peace and Poetry,

Naki

A Love Poem To Self

Woman I knew you when
you came into this world
covered in red, full of lungs,
ball of fire you. you were
divine in how your scent
was that of vanilla, and
your smile was more crescent
than the Mesopotamia. I especially
admired your eyes, and how
hypnotizing they were when
you opened them every morning.
people fell in love with rhythm,
considering you entertained
while you danced to Ghanaian
hi-life music at the small age
of 2. you made dad proud,
and mom cry tears of joy,
cause you were unique like
your name. they named you
with purpose and meaning,
FIRST BORN GIRL. and you
wore the name like the
greatest accessory. Woman,
you have shed many tears
over the years, yet in still you
rise above water, and elevate
the flood as though you took
lessons from Yeshua himself.
you listen well. and for that
I honor you with the greatest
respect. I speak tongues into
your ears. and I pour into your
heart so that you can blossom
like never before. you are the greatest
poem ever to be written and
I’m elated to be your author.
I compose you with care and
even when I fail you, you still
trust in the God in me, to get it
right the next time around.
this morning I placed the words
that form your petals, in a vase
of spring water, and from this day
forward I promise to watch you
grow in the most brightest star,
that Yahweh spoke you would be.
more brighter than the galactic cosmos
iridescent and milky way silver. Today
I take a moment to speak poignant words
of healing to you. I love you, Queen.
